Harry Schoonmaker

Harry Schoonmaker

Harry Ogden Grant Schoonmaker was the only child of John and Hannah (Pierce) Schoonmaker that married. Harry Ogden Grant Schoonmaker was born in the first frame house erected west of Milwaukee on the 4th of July 1863, the same day on which General Grant captured Vicksburg which was the beginning of the end of the Civil War. We assume Harry has the middle name Grant because of that. Harry was educated in the schools of Wauwatosa.

Harry married Caroline Elizabeth “Carrie” Pilgrim on 3 Jun 1885 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Carrie was the daughter of Daniel Thomas Pilgrim and Sarah Jeffrey, was born on 19 Jul 1862 in West Granville, Milwaukee, WI. Although her family lived in Granville, Carrie attended school in Wauwatosa. In 1880 we find her listed as a boarder at the Haut Mower residence in Wauwatosa.

Harry Schoonmaker ran the Wauwatosa Railway Line from 1891-1898. More about the Wauwatosa Railway Line. After he sold his railway interests he worked in partnership with his sons in the Schoonmaker Construction Company

Harry and Caroline had the following children:

  • Bessie Schoonmaker was born in 1886 in Wauwatosa. She died on 1 Mar 1887 at the age of 1
  • John Raymond Schoonmaker was born 29 November 1887 died at the Veterans Hospital 2 August 1935.
  • Ogden Grant Schoonmaker was born 27 August 1893/94 and died 10 January 1957.

Carrie died on 3 Apr 1922 at the age of 59 in Wauwatosa and was buried at the Wauwatosa Cemetery with the family. Harry died on 16 Dec 1938 at the age of 75.
