Our Earliest Ancestor in the New Land
In the early 1600s many residents of England didn’t like the way the church of England was teaching. It was too controlling. These Englishmen went first to Holland then to America in order to worship freely.
One of those early pilgrims, Abraham Peirce, was the first member of the Peirce family to settle in Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts. He arrived on the ship Anne (the second ship to arrive in America after the Mayflower) in 1623. Also listed on the ship manifest, but with no names, are two of Abraham’s servants.
It is said that all the Peirce families, regardless of spelling descend from the Pers family in England. We have not traced the family further than Abraham.
